You can reinvent the look of your vertical blinds by following a few easy to follow steps and save on your money.
Venetian blinds are fast replacing vertical blinds in our homes as they are widely thought of as more fashionable and stylish compared to the latter. Most new homes today are adorned with Venetian style blinds as they lend an elegant look to a place. Although a lot of us who have vertical blinds may want to change them, the time and money that goes into this task may deter us from doing so. Thus, the best option is to make a few changes in the existing blinds already installed in our homes to enhance the interiors and make it look chic and interesting. The time when simple vertical blinds were deemed as stylish has long gone and today, they are seen as a thing of the past. The most useful thing to do in such a case is to re invent them. Some of the ways in which you can do this without straining your pocket have been mentioned below:
1) A fabric that is stiff and has been starched is a good way to enhance the look of your vertical blinds. The first step here is to measure the size of the slats of your vertical blinds. Then, a fabric in a suitable colour that will complement and go well with the colour of the vertical blinds should be purchased. The kind of fabric you buy is a very important decision. It should go well with the look of the blinds and blend in with the room. The new fabric should be cut up just like the slats of the blinds and then put in a starch solution to make it stiff. It also helps to prevent dirt from settling onto it. All the pieces should be left to dry for sometime. When they are completely dry, they can be put up on the vertical blinds slats. A useful point to remember here is that starching a fabric can result in shrinkage. So, it should be soaked in water sometime before going through all the above mentioned steps so that you already know how much it can shrink. This will avoid problems later on.
2) Another way to restore or reinvent your vertical blinds is by purchasing a see through piece of fabric or curtain. This can be cut up according to the measurements of the vertical blinds slats and then installed over them. This will give a vibrant look to old, faded blinds.
3) In case the vertical blinds installed in your home are very old and have lost their appeal and magic due to the settlement of dirt and dust on them, the best thing to do is to clean them thoroughly first before embarking on any changes. Next, you can buy colourful wallpaper from the market that is most suitable for the look of your living room or bedroom, wherever the blinds are installed. The wallpaper should be cut up according to the size of the slats on the blinds and then pasted using strong fabric glue. This will help to make your old blinds seem as good as new without really having to invest much.
4) You may also choose to dye the faded colourless blinds in order restore their original colour. A useful tip while doing so is not to straightaway soak them in a solution of dye and water but to first apply the die with a brush onto the slats. This helps keep the water content to the minimum and ensures that the fabric of the blinds is dyed perfectly.
5) You can use spray paints or paint it in interesting textures onto the vertical blinds in your house. You can use all your artistic as well as creative skills and come up with a unique look for your vertical blinds.
